How Desiccant Dehumidifiers Work

Using a large Desiccant Dehumidifier on a job site

This is a photo from a massive water damage that needed some big help. This heavy piece of machinery is called a desiccant dehumidifier. We use this when the air is cooler and drier than normal. Desiccant dehumidifiers don't rely on condensation, instead they use a chemical reaction.

A desiccant wheel with a grid of small air passages is filled with a silica gel and rotates through different airflow zones. The blower then blows heated air through these zones.

Desiccants do not collect water in a pan for automatic pump-out. Instead, they produce damp reactivation air, which must be vented outside the structure using temporary ducting.

We use those big hoses to transport the chemically reacted air thought the house; and by using other tubed ducting in the house we can control exactly where we want this air to go.
